Diamond Cutter was selected by the Discovery Health Channel to help Darla G. change her lifestyle. The three-month assignment was captured on camera for a six-part miniseries, “Health Cops: Sentenced to Health,” which aired throughout 2002.

Thirty-eight, Darla manages two upscale restaurants in the downtown area of a major U.S. city. Her goals:

Diamond Cutter began with an assessment to determine Darla’s current mental, physical and spiritual state. Based on the results, the firm created a customized program that:

Committed to healing the whole person, Diamond Cutter also nurtured Darla’s spirit and helped her to tap into her life’s passion. To move Darla closer to her authentic self and her true spirit, the firm incorporated counseling and outdoor activities into her individualized plan.

Darla made a lot of sacrifices in order to change her lifestyle. The customized program was a drastic change for Darla, who (like many) had become accustomed to one way of existing without realizing she could actually choose differently and begin living. Before being “sentenced to health” Darla admitted, “I didn’t like myself very much.” But, after successfully completing the program, she said unequivocally, “I now like who I am.”

After three months what was it she liked about herself? How had she changed?
Darla completely eliminated alcohol and caffeine from her diet and replacing them with 8-10 glasses of water daily. She began eating balanced meals and significantly reduced her sugar intake, losing 10 pounds. She incorporated exercise (spinning, total body conditioning, pilates, yoga) into her morning routine, 4-6 times a week. She learned to delegate, take one (and sometimes two) day(s) off a week to spend quality time with herself and reconnect with her artistic side. She began to express herself more openly through counseling and increased her self esteem by 30% percent.

Perhaps most important, near the end of the project Darla realized that she did not want to be a restaurant manager for the rest of her life. Diamond Cutter challenged her to explore another career path that would be more fulfilling. Through her exploration, she found an antique dealer and furniture builder who invited her to become his apprentice on Saturdays so that she could begin to pursue her interest in furniture design. Darla also decided that eventually she wanted to move to the country, get married, raise children and ride horses — reconnecting with nature where she discovered she was most at peace

Diamond Cutter enthusiastically accepted the Discovery Health challenge because the firm knew that its mission — to bring forth inherent strength and beauty in each client, despite the presence of flaws — could be achieved. Diamond Cutter is proud to have successfully sentenced Darla G. to health.
